Splitgate (1047 Games)

My current obsession is Splitgate. What is it? If Halo and Portal got together and decided to have a baby, that baby would grow up on a battlefield in some sort of futuristic sporting arena. That baby rose up through the ranks and …… you know what? We’ll leave it there. They had a baby.

But is Splitgate any good?

Yes. Thanks for joining us.

Splitgate is a free-to-play, multiplayer first person shooter from 1047 Games. Developed under the working title of Splitgate : Arena Warfare, it was released on August 25, 2021 with Season Zero. The game features gun combat where players are able to create wormhole portals between two points on the map. The portals can be utilised for travel and targeting enemy players. You can even use the portals to trick enemy players into falling to their doom!

1047 Games was founded by Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian in their dorm rooms at Stanford (the company was named after the address of their dorm). What started as two computer science majors putting portals into an FPS for a project demo, has now turned into a 25-person game development studio. Through their flagship game, Splitgate, 1047 Games aims to bring back the glory days of PvP shooters. It’s easy to see why IGN described Splitgate as “Halo meets Portal,” specifically referencing its Halo 2 and Halo 3 style gameplay.

This week alone, i’ve sank more time into this game than i’d ever care to admit. It’s highly addictive PvP action, easy to learn and difficult to master. Splitgate is crossplay enabled for XBOX, PlayStation and PC. You can learn more at https://www.splitgate.com/

See you on the battlefield – i’ll be the one shooting you in the back of the head through a portal.
