Apps like Wander have given VR users the opportunity to access Google Street view in a whole new way. We take a look at some of the iconic filming locations from the film Ghostbusters and where to find them. Join us in the first of a series of virtual film location tours!
Wander VR
The best way to experience these locations is via apps like Wander. Wander VR is a virtual reality platform that allows users to immerse themselves in notable destinations from around the world. The software makes use of Google Street View technology to produce a realistic, 3D picture of these sites, giving users the impression that they are truly there.
One of the key benefits of Wander VR is that it allows users to visit places that they might otherwise never have the opportunity to see in person. This can be especially valuable for people who have mobility issues or other limitations that prevent them from traveling.
Ghostbusters (1984)
Ghostbusters is essentially a love letter to New York in terms of location. In a city where every other street is iconic, Ghostbusters has established itself at the forefront of visited filming locations. Here are just a few:
The New York Public Library, New York City, NY, USA (476 5th Ave, New York, NY 10018, USA) – the opening of the film, the bit that i had to hide behind a cushion for as a child. The library ghost still gives me the willies to this day. Keep your eyes peeled for Egon stethoscoping a table…
You will also recognise the lions flanking the front of the building.

Dana Barrett’s Apartment Building, New York City, NY, USA (55 Central Park West, New York, NY 10023, USA) – spook central! This building, crowned with that distinct architectural style just oozes Zuul’s gateway…..

The Sedgwick Hotel, LA, (506 South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles 90071) – disappointingly not located in New York but a grand and impressive building nonetheless. An iconic setting in Ghostbusters lore. There’s enough internal pictures to take a look around the function rooms and guest suites. It is reportedly a “very haunted” setting with many staff and guests reporting sightings over the years.

Times Square, New York City, NY, USA (various locations) – a location used brilliantly in any number of films but specifically for scenes of the Ecto 1. I believe it was also used in the Music video for Ray Parker Jr’s Ghostbusters

The Ghostbusters’ Firehouse, New York City, NY, USA (14 N Moore St, New York, NY 10013, USA) – the quintessential filming location for any Ghostbusters fan. Ghost-Mecca, if you will.
