I like to stay away from “the latest hype” or big name release – it’s not what this site is about and i prefer to deep dive IP’s that i’ve spent time with. Having spent this weekend knee-deep in E3, i thought i’d abandon my usual sensibilities and report on some of that hype.
A lot of big games were announced at this years E3 expo, many of which we were expecting with a few newer interesting games slated for release over the next year.
The one announcement many of us were eagerly awaiting was that of Starfield.
Starfield is Bethesda’s first new intellectual property for 25 years so it’s safe to say that the hype i discussed is very real. The title was announced at E3 in 2018 with no specific details, just that the game studio would be working on it moving forward.
In March 2021 Bethesda became part of XBOX Game Studios which was a huge boost for both companies. It also meant that the Bethesda back-catalogue of games became available to XBOX players. This included the Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises.
It is within that vein of output, that the anticipation for Starfield is massive. Both franchises boast expansive worlds with immersive lore spanning a number of games. It is believed that Starfield will follow a similar trend.
The game has been in various stages of internal development, or at least conversation for the best part of a decade. So far what we know is that the title will be an RPG and set in space.
Up until E3 2021, all we had access to was the ominous but equally epic teaser for the game which was posted to their site https://bethesda.net/en/game/starfield. The teaser didn’t give much away but it sent the internet into a frenzy. Fast forward to E3 and we were treated to a vision of Starfield and release information. So what can we expect?
The expo delivered us a new trailer, a release date and a glimpse at the level of detail we can expect.
If you missed the trailer you can watch it here :
Starfield will release on 11/11/22 exclusively on XBOX and as an added bonus it will arrive on Game Pass.
Shortly after the announcement was made Twitter was on fire with an equal mix of opinion. It’s safe to say not everyone is happy about the exclusivity.
Personally I think it looks fantastic! What do you think?
